What is a Woman? (2019)

What is a Woman? is a project created to empower women and their own sense of self,
in attempt to create an open conversation about unhealthy relationships with our bodies.
Too often, women feel they must fit into a certain criteria that is deemed ‘acceptable’.
Only the few, every truly feeling proud, or comfortable in their own skin.
The project consists of 37 individual images of multiple female forms, pulled together to create a perfectly-imperfect 8 foot composite woman.
Too large to be ignored, too many idiosyncrasies to be sexualised.
The intention for this piece is to highlight the fact that female physicality’s do not define our worth;
one is not better than the other because they bear wider hips, or a bigger bust, or a smaller waistline, or lighter skin.
These notions about the female form, impressed upon us by society and culture are detrimental to the female psyche.
A woman is a woman no matter what —
I am Woman.
You are Woman.
We are Woman.

“To be a woman is to be too expensive at the expense of something else.
So here is the only truth that matters:
You are too important to be bound by the limitations of other people's expectations.”
